Mission: A separate National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Section was created within the Department of Forests in 1972 in order to coordinate the establishment of national parks and wildlife reserves. This office was upgraded to the status of a Department within the Ministry of Forest and Environment in 1980.
The overall goal of the Department is to conserve and manage the rich and diverse biological diversity of Nepal with much emphasis on wildlife and protected areas. The primary objectives of the Department are to conserve the country’s major representative ecosystems, unique natural and cultural heritage, and give protection to the valuable and endangered wildlife species. It also encourages scientific research for the preservation of wild genetic diversity.

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION NEPAL (WCN)

Mission: Wildlife Conservation Nepal, a non-governmental organisation registered with the Government of Nepal, is not for profit organization. It was established with a view to protect and conserve natural heritage and disseminate information on environment and wildlife issues.
WCN protects and conserves endangered species by monitoring illegal wildlife trade and conducts field level activties to safeguard wildlife species in their natural habitat. Similarly, it designs and conducts researches, trainings and workshops and enhances capacity of enforcement officials in combating wildlife trade.
