Celebration of Environment Day 2010

As done every year, IUCN Nepal celebrated World Environment Day with the theme "Many Species. One Planet. One Future". IUCN Nepal joined hands with Central Zoo of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) in celebrating the World Environment Day, 2010. Other partners of the celebration were Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City and WWF Nepal.
A green walk was organized in the streets of Lalitpur district, patan in the morning. School children from 12 different schools of the valley, representatives of government and non-government organizations and locals had participated in the rally. participated in the rally. The main objective of the rally was to spread the message in accordance to the world theme that we have just one planet which is shared by many species of plants and animals but it's up to us to preserve it for everyone and for the future generations to come.
At the end of the rally, various programmes were organized. The winners of the various competitions among school children which had taken place earlier during the week were handed over prizes. Later, the Chief Guest, Secretary at Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Surya Prasad Joshi stressed on the need for determination for the conservation of the natural resources by the different walks of society.
Member Secretary of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) Juddha Bahadur Gurung said all parties should put in a lot of effort to reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. He further added that the meeting of Kalaphattar has had a world wide impact and Nepal has been able to get attention of the world with the help of that meet.
