The National Conservation Strategy Implementation Project decided to set up an Environmental Library in 1989. The aim of this resource centre is to collect, process and store information related to the environment. To date this resource centre has over 4000 books, 1000 articles, 1500 papers/thesis papers and we receive 200 newsletter and journal. Publications in the library have been classified according to the Alpha Numerical System. The centre is on the mailing list of various environmental organizations in Nepal and abroad. The main source is the IUCN itself, which regularly sends books, reports, journals and newsletter to the centre. The primary users of this centre are the professionals of the IUCN. People also regularly visit the centre from other government and non-government organizations, donor institutions, and development agencies. In addition, students from Nepal and abroad, researchers, and other professionals utilise the centre. This resource centre is considered as one of the most reliable environment resource centre in the country. This could be shown by the numbers of visitors. Annually approximately 2000 visitors visit the centre for their research and studies. The resource centre has a collection of videocassette; photos; and slides on environment subject. The resource centre also has collections of newspaper clippings on environment related subjects dating back to January 1993 which are also referred to by visitors to the centre. |
